About the Artist

Dawn Robinson is a local artist whose work breathes with the love of Hawaii. Born and raised in Honolulu, she received her artistic training at New York’s Pratt Institute. Responding to a deeper call, she returned to Hawaii after spending years in various parts of the mainland.

Her images are inspired by her active lifestyle and love of the outdoors –(Backpacking into the remotest parts of Hawaii surfing). Other themes are traceable to the unique: the beautiful flora and fauna of the ‘aina; and a very imaginative, unique, and subtle sense of humor, which elicits gasps of delight in the discovery of a tiny detail or whimsical portrayal of an otherwise ordinary object.

She has worked in various media, and is now delving into a unique style of whimsical sculpture, and is placing her art on ceramic tile items for the home. Her designs attract the eye, and make a statement. The statement can be as subdued as a refrigerator magnet, or as bold and assertive as a mural or entryway floor design. Her designs and materials are also suitable for creating a very unique look for pools and showers, truly integrating beautiful form with fun living, local style.

Dawn lives in misty Manoa Valley where she grew up, on the banks of Manoa Stream.
